Our Principal - Brooke Barr

Ms. Barr has lived and raised her family in District 24 for the last 30 years. She has been involved in education for over 20 years as a teacher, coach, professor and administrator.

Before opening CLS, Ms. Barr was an academic director for the Harlem Village Academy charter elementary schools. Prior to her work at HVA, she was the elementary principal at the Churchill School, an independent school for children with learning disabilities. She also served as a coach for a NYC DOE network, training teachers on the Common Core. She has been an adjunct lecturer at Hunter College Department of Special Education, where she taught dozens of teachers starting their careers as special educators.

She taught in NYC public schools as a special educator in self-contained, SETSS and ICT classrooms in all grades K-6. Ms. Barr completed her M.S.Ed and advanced certificate in administration and supervision at Hunter College School of Education. She also holds degrees from NYU (M.A.), Yale (M.Phil.) and Harvard University (A.B).

Our Assistant Principal - Jennifer Velasco

Ms. Velasco has been an educator for 14 years in District 24. As a teacher and coach, she has dedicated herself to teaching students and teachers. For her, teaching students has been her greatest accomplishment and most gratifying experience of her life. After 12 years teaching students, she became a Math Coach before joining the Children's Lab School in August 2019. She believes all students can learn and can achieve their dreams!
She enjoys spending time with her two children and loves traveling, reading and sports.
